Transaxillary breast augmentation is an appealing option for women who want discreet scarring and natural-looking results. While it is a transformative procedure that provides women with renewed confidence and contours, many patients want to know what recovery is like before committing to surgery. This blog covers what you need to know about scarless breast augmentation recovery, including a general timeline of scar healing.

Scarless Breast Augmentation Recovery Timeline

Transaxillary breast augmentation is a precise procedure that places incisions in the armpit rather than around the areola or under the breast crease. This technique, perfected by Dr. Adrian Lo, is designed to reduce the prevalence of scars and typically results in a shorter, more manageable recovery period for most patients.

Every patient’s recovery experience is unique, but here is a general timeline of what to expect after scarless breast augmentation:

Immediately After Your Procedure

Dr. Lo’s transaxillary breast implant surgery typically takes about 45 minutes, and you can have someone drive you home the same day. Once you get home, make yourself as comfortable as possible and prepare to get plenty of rest. You might experience slight discomfort, tightness, and swelling during the first few days post-op. This is to be expected and can be managed with pain medication prescribed by Dr. Lo if necessary.

Proper recovery is crucial in ensuring the best outcomes. Usually, post-procedure pain and discomfort tend to peak on the second or third day and then gradually reduce after that. While gentle movement around the house is encouraged, avoid strenuous activities and exercise, as these can cause more pain and possibly compromise your results.

The First Week

During the first week of recovery, most bruising and discomfort will subside. In fact, many of Dr. Lo’s patients experience very little pain after surgery. You can return to your daily duties, such as work and driving, about five to seven days post-op. However, it’s important to avoid strenuous activities such as lifting heavy objects over 10 pounds.

Weeks Two Through Six

At this point in recovery, Dr. Lo usually encourages gentle exercise to prevent stiffness and promote healing. However, you should still avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities. Swelling continues to decrease, and you can start introducing short physical exercises. Remember to always get the go-ahead from Dr. Lo during one of your check-up appointments before reintroducing certain activities.

Six Weeks and Beyond

Most people have fully recovered and are back to their daily routines. There is minimal to no swelling, and the scar in the armpits is starting to fade. Any pain or discomfort will have completely subsided, and your final results will become more visible as your implants settle.

What Do Transaxillary Breast Implant Scars Look Like?

Since the transaxillary incision is in your armpits, the scar is minimal and well concealed. Here is what to expect as your scars heal:

  • Initial Appearance: The armpit incision scar may appear red or slightly raised a few days post-surgery. However, these symptoms tend to flatten and fade away as you recover.
  • Post-surgery Care: Avoid touching the scar unless you are applying ointment or clean dressings.
  • Skin Treatment: Your plastic surgeon may recommend some scar creams to enhance healing and improve the scar’s appearance.
  • Long-Term Results: Your armpit incision scar will heal and start to fade, becoming almost unnoticeable six months to a year after surgery.
